In the highlands of Kenya, potatoes are more than just a staple food—they are a way of life. However, for farmers grappling with climate change, rising input costs, and limited market access, this lifeline has often felt increasingly out of reach. That’s where the CRAFT (Climate Resilient Agribusiness for Tomorrow) project comes in, offering Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices and technologies that help farmers and value chain actors adapt to and build resilience against a changing climate.

The Climate Resilient Agribusiness for Tomorrow (CRAFT) project is transforming agriculture in Tanzania by equipping smallholder farmers with climate-smart agricultural (CSA) practices. Funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented by SNV Netherlands Development Organization alongside Wageningen University, CCAFS, Agriterra, and Rabobank Partnerships, CRAFT focuses on building resilient food systems to withstand climate change challenges.

Seeds of Success: Paul Kariuki's Journey to Thriving Amidst Climate Change Challenges in Agriculture
Paul Kariuki's story is a shining example of how climate smart farming can transform lives in the face of a changing climate. Paul was 33 years old and living in Nakuru County when he found himself without a formal job, working as a casual labourer on farms. He decided to take a different path and transitioned to small-scale farming as his main source of income. This decision turned out to be life-changing for him.

Nelson Kipkosgey is the Chairperson of the Nandi Youth Council. Earlier this year, he was selected for a three-month internship in Germany under the International Young Farmers Exchange Program. He secured this incredible opportunity after participating in the National Youth Convention, which was hosted by CRAFT, Agriterra, and Kenya National Farmers' Federation. Now back home in Kenya, Nelson shares what he learned during his experience.
